The Jamesville-DeWitt boys basketball team had no choice but to call a timeout. With just 1:45 ticked off the clock in Saturday's Section III Class A semifinal at SRC Arena, the top-seeded-Red Rams were losing, 7-0, to a Cortland team they had already beaten twice this season.

As Nottingham’s Chyanna Canada galloped down the court early in the fourth quarter of Saturday's Section III Class AA girls basketball semifinal at Onondaga Community College's Allyn Hall, only Cicero-North Syracuse's McKayla Roberts of Cicero-North Syracuse stood in the way. But instead of letting the 6-foot-2 Canada score the easy basket, the 5-foot-3-inch Roberts stood tall and took a hard charge to give the Northstars the ball back.

Each of the stars on the Skaneateles indoor track and field team found themselves heading back to SRC Arena one more time this winter for last Wednesday night’s Section III state qualifier. Only the top two finishers in each event were guaranteed possible berths in next Saturday’s state meet, which will be held again at Cornell University’s Barton Hall.
Leff second in 1,500 after Millrose Games appearance
The area’s boys and girls indoor track and field stars were gathered once more at SRC Arena last Wednesday, taking part in the Section III state qualifier. Berths in next Saturday’s state meet at Colgate University were at stake, and the top two finishers in any single event earned automatic berths. That would include a host of local athletes, including Marcellus’ Rachel Garn and West Genesee’s Abby Uczen.
