Mustangs to face Onondaga in Class C quarterfinal
As expected, the Marcellus girls lacrosse team saw that its 14-2 regular-season mark translated into a no. 2 seed for the Section III Class C playoffs. The Mustangs have a first-round bye in the 12-team tournament, and watched on Saturday as no. 7 seed Onondaga, in its first-ever post-season appearance, beat no. 10 Watertown IHC 9-5 in the opening round.
Bearcats ride 11-game win streak into sectionals
Heading into the Section III Class B playoffs, the Westhill baseball team is favored again to finish on top, but judging by the way it has played down the stretch, Solvay is a worthy challenger after it broke a 28-year league championship drought.
Lakers earn no. 12 Class B seed, meets Caz in first round
Given the skid that it went through in the latter stages of the regular season, the Skaneateles baseball team welcomed any sort of good news before it got too late.
Skaneateles cannot recover from last-second goal in third quarter
All of the late-season struggles that the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team faced would get smoothed over with one great performance in the Section III Class C playoffs. The Lakers, a no. 7 seed (much lower than in seasons past), went up against no. 2 seed Westhill in Saturday’s Class C quarterfinal, and led for large portions of the game – only to surrender that advantage in the last 12 minutes and fall to the Warriors 13-10.
Bearcats roll past Central Square, Oneida
A league title was long tucked away, and the Section III Class B playoffs still loomed, but what drove the Solvay softball team was the desire to finish with a perfect regular-season mark – and it would reach that goal with some of its most impressive wins of the season.

Just one minute of strong play separated the Marcellus boys lacrosse team from a return to the Section III Class C semifinals at the expense of the same opponent, Christian Brothers Academy, that it eliminated in this same round a year earlier.
Caz advances to face CBA in sectional semis
Nearly 12 months after the Cazenovia boys lacrosse team's Section III and state Class C championship reign ended at the expense of Homer, the two sides met again in the post-season, and the stakes were far different - as was the result.
Boys lacrosse Warriors advance to Class C semis
Every time this spring that the Westhill boys lacrosse team stared at a crisis point, it stared right back - and made the opponent blink. That happened again in Saturday's Section III Class C quarterfinal, where the no. 2 seed Warriors trailed no. 7 seed Skaneateles for long portions of the game, but finished strong and earned a 13-10 victory over the Lakers.
Zerillo scores in waning seconds to beat Marcellus, 14-13
Braedon Gait was disappointed, for his shot in the waning seconds of Saturday's Section III Class C boys lacrosse quarterfinal at Alibrandi Stadium was off line, and it looked like Christian Brothers Academy was on its way to overtime with Marcellus. But that disappointment soon vanished as Jack Zerillo showed up, left of the net, and fired it past Mustangs goalie Jake Lilly with just 1.7 seconds left, giving the Brothers a 14-13 victory.
Caz player qualifies for sectional tournament wit hole-in-one
Trevor Nourse faced major pressure as his Cazenovia boys golf team played Marcellus and Solvay in Friday’s three-way match at Pine Grove Golf Club. Either Nourse broke 40, or he would not qualify for the Section III tournament. With one memorable swing, Nourse reached his goal.

Mustangs rout Chittenango 18-4 to clinch first place
Long before any of its current players were born, the Marcellus softball team celebrated a league championship season in 1981. Three-plus decades later, the Mustangs reigned again, climbing to the top of the Onondaga High School League’s Liberty American division on the strength of a double-digit win streak.

Six boys, girls Bees prevail in individual events
Though quite successful on many different fronts, neither of Baldwinsville’s track and field teams could catch up to Cicero-North Syracuse or Liverpool during Thursday’s CNY Counties League National division championship meet.
Northstars again have to rally to beat Warriors
Right at the end, the Liverpool baseball team started to click and find success, even if it was too late to reach the post-season. What the Warriors could take the most pride in, perhaps, was the way it played in two-head-to-head encounters with rival Cicero-North Syracuse.
