Skaneateles falls, 2-1, to Albany Academy
Another quest for glory has begun for the Skaneateles girls ice hockey team as it began the 2013-14 season nearly a full week before Thanksgiving.
Red Rams set school mark in 200 medley relay
Grabbing the Class B and overall championships made the Jamesville-DeWitt girls swim team's season a rousing success long before it ventured to Ithaca College for this weekend's New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet.
Liverpool swimmers break several school marks
None of the Section III swimmers participating in last weekend's New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Ithaca College did as well as Liverpool's Madeline Murphy, at least in terms of getting near the top of the medal podium.
West Genny posts pair of top-10 finishes
As a strong capstone to an undefeated season that included a Section III Class A championship, West Genesee's girls swim team, led by Olivia Castro, set a string of school records during the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship, held Friday and Saturday at Ithaca College.

Bees beat Mercy in four sets, avenge 2012 finals loss
So here stood the Baldwinsville girls volleyball team on the floor at Glens Falls Civic Center, exactly 12 months after seeing its shot at the state Class AA championship thwarted by Rochester Mercy. Again, the Bees had reached the state finals. Again, Mercy was the opponent. Only this time, it was B’ville emerging with the big prize, taking four sets to defeat the Saints Sunday afternoon and earn its second state title in four years.
Westhill unable to contain Carle Place in 3-0 defeat
Everything turned out ideal for the Westhill boys soccer team – except the last chapter of its stirring 2013 narrative. The Warriors made it all the way to Sunday’s state Class B championship game at Middletown High School, only to run into a tough, effective opponent in Carle Place (Section VIII) and take a 3-0 defeat to the Frogs, who won its first-ever state title.
Last-minute goal thwarts Marcellus bid for fourth state crown
In the cruelest way possible, the Marcellus girls soccer team saw its chance of winning a state Class B championship thwarted. A shot by Oneonta's Madison Miller that somehow found the net in the waning seconds of regulation led to a 2-1 defeat in Sunday night's title game at SUNY-Cortland.
Lakers defeated, 1-0, by Pierson/Bridgehampton
Three years ago, the Cazenovia field hockey team broke through and won the school's first-ever state team championship in overtime over Pierson/Bridgehampton. Those same two teams met again Sunday afternoon at Cicero-North Syracuse's Bragman Stadium with the same stakes, and again it went to overtime - but this time the Whalers prevailed in a 1-0 decision.
Kent goal pushes Lakers past Barker, 1-0
With the moon out on a unseasonably warm November evening, the Cazenovia Lakers looked to advance to its third Class C field hockey state final in four years. It ended up taking a little bit longer than the Lakers probably hoped, but a goal from junior Ashley Kent three minutes into the second overtime lifted Cazenovia over Section VI champion Barker 1-0 in Saturday's state semifinal at Cicero-North Syracuse's Bragman Stadium.
Caz nearly ends Spartans' 35-game win streak
A few inches here, or a few inches there, and perhaps the Cazenovia football team is celebrating one of the landmark victories in a glorious program's history. Instead, the Lakers had to cope with a bitter 35-34 defeat to two-time reigning state champion Maine-Endwell in Saturday night's Class B regional final at Union-Endicott's Ty Cobb Stadium and will wonder, for a long time, how things might have turned out were it not for those precious inches near the goal line.
CBA cannot overcome injuries, determined Express
No one on the Christian Brothers Academy football team thought that it would end here. For the Brothers, anything less than a season that ended on the first day of December at the Carrier Dome, with a state Class AA championship in sight, would leave a trace of disappointment, since all the pieces appeared to be in place for a run to the top.
Second-half goal helps Marcellus top Center Moriches
Jordin Wentworth's last experience on the SUNY-Cortland turf ended with her carried off the field on a stretcher after an injury suffered in the Section III Class B final against Westhill. Barely two weeks later, in nearly the exact same spot where her injury took place, Wentworth did something quite different - and it propelled the Mustangs to a 2-0 victory over Center Moriches in the state Class B semifinals.
Muldoon-led Warriors dominate 26 challengers at Bowdoin Park
Two weeks after it fell just short of dethroning eventual state champion Fayetteville-Manlius in the Section III Class A meet, the Liverpool boys cross country team gained a valuable prize of its own. Without the Hornets to worry about, the Warriors pulled away from 25 challengers and won team honors at Saturday's New York State Federation Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
