Speaker Paul Kim scheduled to appear at Holy Family
Submitted by Susan Cunningham
It was on the feast of Saint Andrew Kim, a Korean martyr, that this writer was first introduced to Paul J. Kim, himself born of a Catholic Korean family.
Described as a “world-class evangelist,” Kim is down-to-earth and an encounter with him is as warm and honest as sharing with a good friend. His authenticity connects him with his audience.
We will have the opportunity to welcome Kim at Holy Family for a short Advent Mission on Catholic Family Life on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 13 and 14.
OK, the thoughts went through this head, too!
“One more thing to do in the busiest time of year!”
But, sincerely, when introduced to Paul (pjkmusic.com), it became apparent that the privilege of being in his presence will rise to the top of the list and be joyfully appreciated in the midst of all the other responsibilities of the season.
Kim is a husband and father of young children.
He has earned a growing international reputation as a speaker, musician, and beatboxer with a powerful message of faith, hope and love.
He shares candidly of his once lackadaisical faith mode when he attended church for two reasons: donuts and girls!
Then, there was the Steubenville West conference in Arizona and an amazing transformation in an encounter with Christ.
He was not proud of the divided life he was living.
“We think we are damaged goods, falling somewhere between Hitler and Mother Teresa.” He said an honest prayer.
He realized that the church is a haven for sinners, a hospital for the weak, poor, lowly, and all who struggle with sin: a home for all of us.
We are restored through the Sacraments.
Kim proclaims that Confession is one of the most profound ways of knowing that God’s love is so great that He wants to set us free.
“We don’t have to change to come to God; coming to God changes us…God’s mission is to set us free, to heal us and to restore us to life,” he said.
His life-changing message is shared with more than 50,000 people a year. From the humorous to the sublime, he uses his talents, including a background in theology, philosophy and marriage and family therapy) to communicate the Gospel to people of all ages.
So, mark your calendar for an Advent gift! The first & second conferences with Paul are Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 13 and 14 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the main church.
There will be a special session for Seniors in the Church Hall on Wednesday from 9:30 –10:30 a.m. with coffee & doughnuts served. Teens will also have time with Paul at dinner on Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Church Hall.
Events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 488-3139 or visit holyfamilysyr.org.
Looking forward to sharing this time of inspiration with you! Bring the whole family!
