Fayetteville — The Town of Manlius Police Department has announced the arrest of two suspects who were reportedly in the progress of a burglary in an occupied home in the village of Fayetteville on March 2.
Police have arrested Matthew M. Berry, 28, and Elizabeth Yencha, 24, both of Syracuse, and charged the suspects with burglary in the second degree (class C felony) and criminal mischief in the third degree (class D felony).
Officers say Berry and Yencha were apprehended on March 2 after Berry forced entry into an occupied home at about 10:40 a.m. and the homeowner called 911. After officers arrived, police observed a male suspect running from the rear of the residence into a wooded area. A second officer arrived and observed Yencha in a vehicle parked near the victim’s home. Yencha was then interviewed and apprehended, police say.
Manlius Police were assisted by the New York State Police, the DeWitt Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and county K-9 units to be able to track and locate Berry, who was found hiding in a drainage culvert approximately a half mile from the victim’s residence.
In addition to the March 2 charges, Berry and Yencha were both charged with burglary in the second degree (class C felony) criminal mischief in the third degree (class D felony) and petit larceny(class A misdemeanor) stemming from an incident that occurred last week in the village of Manlius in which Berry and Yencha entered the unoccupied apartment and stole property.
Berry and Yencha were arraigned in the Town of Manlius Court by Justice Pavone, and were remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center. Yencha is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash or $5,000 bail bond. Berry is being held on no bail.
