East Syracuse The carpentry program at the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District is now accepting project applications for the 2014-15 school year. Appropriate projects must be within the ESM school district boundaries and be sizeable enough to engage up to 20 students and may include a new home, addition, garage or similar project.
Homeowners are responsible for the cost of materials and any necessary outside contracting. Students provide free labor and require a safe learning environment. Applications and information can be obtained online at esmschools.org/HOUSE or by contacting Deputy Superintendent Dr. Thomas Neveldine at 434-3006. Applications are due by June 13.
In past years, students have built an entire house. This year, students have been working on smaller projects. They are building a storage structure next to the stadium at the high school. In the fall they built a two-car garage and this spring they are finishing a basement. They have plans in the works for updating the look of the front entry at the high school, building a few sheds, and building a porch for a local family.
