continued Koennecke resides in Cazenovia with her husband Fritz, who is also an Air Force veteran and member of Post 88. They have two children: Fritz III, also a member of Post 88, who is graduating from Cornell this year and plans to enter the U.S. Army, and Hannah, who is a junior at Syracuse University. Also part of their family is their niece Marie Sugio, who is a freshman at LeMoyne College.
After the memorial ceremony, the parade will be ordered to resume march to its starting point. All parade participants are invited to the Cazenovia Fire House for a light lunch after the parade.
Other events for this Memorial Day will be:
✓A noon memorial service will also be held by Post 88 at Evergreen Cemetery to honor veterans buried in all of our community cemeteries.
✓A 3 p.m. observance of a national time of silence.
Graveside flags and regular flags can be purchased at the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce, 51 Albany St., and Gissin Photography, 25 Williams St.
The traditional poppy will be offered by Post 88 Legion and Auxiliary members along the parade route and on Saturday, May 24, before Memorial Day. Merchant locations for the Saturday are Tops, Buyea’s, Oneida Bank and Kinney Drugs.
For those veterans who wish to participate in the 8 a.m. Erieville Memorial Day parade, please meet at 6:45 am at Dave’s Diner for breakfast and coordination.
