Jeanette Cudney, Ashley Kent and Jessica Macheda earned victories to help the Cazenovia girls track and field team claim fourth place in Monday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty division championship meet at Marcellus High School.
All told, the Lakers earned 86 points, unable to keep pace with its fellow Lakers from Skaneateles, who won with 133 points. Westhill/Bishop Ludden (114 points) and host Marcellus (99 points) were second and third, respectively.
Though Marcellus senior Rachel Garn swept the 800, 1,500 and 3,000-meter titles, she did not run in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, and Cudney took full advantage, posting a top time of seven minutes, 57.04 seconds, with Westhill/Ludden’s Maddie Nowicki second in 8:02.69.
Cudney’s teammate, Malone Gabor, was third in 8:03.39, and would also earn a fifth-place time of 1:16.13 in the 400-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, Cudney did run in the 3,000, getting to fifth place in 11:48.50, with Mya Walters sixth in 12:22.99.

Macheda, who tied for seventh in the high jump and was seventh in the 100-meter dash, made sure no one beat her in the long jump, as her top attempt of 15’11” beat out Kylie Bartlett (Altmar-Parish-Williamstown), who was second with 15’8 ¾”. Pittman finished ninth.
Walters, Colleen Stalder, Maria Stalder and Bailey Forrett gained third place in the 4×800 relay in 10:51.12, which Skaneateles (10:13.92) won as part of a relay sweep. Forrett, Grace Wheeler and the Stalder sisters finished fourth (4:29.33) in the 4×400.

Cazenovia’s boys track team earned 27 points in its OHSL Liberty meet, most of them from Walker Nichols, who was second in the 110 high hurdles in 16.31 seconds behind Tyree Allen (Institute of Technology Central), who won in 15.95 seconds.
Nichols, with a long jump of 20’1”, had another second-place finish, this time behind ITC’s Delee Williams, who went exactly 21 feet, and Nichols added a fourth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”, while Reed Lucas threw the shot put 39’10 ½” and gained sixth place.
