Cazenovia A new interactive website has recently been launched that will help guide visitors to the vast array of trails, recreational activities and cultural sites in the greater Cazenovia area. GoCaz.com is an innovative, user-friendly way to discover more about recreational opportunities in this region.
This initiative was developed by the Cazenovia Area Community Development Association (CACDA).
“From the lake and scenic trails, to the parks and cultural sites, Cazenovia really is a hub for recreational activity,” said CACDA Executive Director Lauren Lines. “We wanted to make it easier for visitors and residents to access and enjoy all of the activities our area has to offer.”
According to GoCaz Project Chairperson Jocelyn Gavitt, “This map-based website can guide locals and visitors to their selected activity: identifying trails, parks, access points or suggested routes along with descriptions, contact information and photos."
The web developer for the project was Mohawk Valley GIS in Herkimer, N.Y.
“This project is the first of its kind in that it was community driven,” said owner Linda Rockwood. “CACDA used a very unique approach that consisted of an amazing pulling together of community and volunteer effort. The result is outstanding and can serve as a model for other communities.”
“GoCaz.com will be a magnificent resource for those who wish to take advantage of the countless outdoor opportunities in and around Cazenovia,” said Cazenovia Village Mayor Kurt Wheeler. “Whatever you love to do — hike, ski, kayak, bike, fish — Cazenovia has wonderful options four seasons a year. The village looks forward to welcoming people as they enjoy these activities.”
CACDA will host an official launch of GoCaz.com from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, pm at the Stone’s Throw at the Lincklaen House. This opportunity to celebrate the launch is free and open to the public. All community members are encouraged to attend. In addition, an information session to learn more about using the website will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, in the Cazenovia Public Library community room.
Development of this site was possible through a tremendous amount of volunteer and in-kind support, grants from the Central New York Community Foundation and the Gifford Foundation and contributions from AmeriCU Credit Union, the Cazenovia Lions Club and numerous individuals. Madison County Planning was also instrumental in the development of the website.
CACDA enhances economic vitality and preserves the rural, historic character of our region through education, consensus-building and project implementation.
