C-NS, Liverpool girls lax rolls to wins

Warriors making late push to get into sectional playoffs

Though some key regular-season contests still remained, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse team spent last week’s action easily casting aside a pair of opponents.

Back from its pair of hard-earned victories in Maryland, the state Class A no. 4-ranked Northstars toyed with Central Square last Monday night at Bragman Stadium, prevailing over the Red Hawks by a score of 21-2.

Sprinting out to a 15-1 halftime lead, C-NS saw 12 different players earn goals, with Mallory Eymer leading the way as she scored four times. Courtney Kenny added three goals.

Meghan Duffy had five assists to go with her lone goal, with Samantha Tortora adding four assists. Tiffany Ryan, Jenna Lippert, Lexxi Knoblock and Kalli Revelle each scored twice. Bryar Cummings had a goal and two assists. Miriam Ghabarou, Megan Caveny, Caitlyn Morris and Christie Hahn also scored goals.

Playing through the rain against visiting Auburn two nights later, it took a while for the Northstars to get going, but it put together an 11-2 second half and turned a so-so effort into an 18-5 romp over the Maroons.

Ryan, with her five assists, fed passes to, among others, Duffy, who amassed five goals and two assists, and Hanna Haven, who roared back to form with four goals and two assists. Kenny managed a three-goal hat trick, with Cummings getting two goals and one assist. Ghabarou and Eymer each had one goal and one assist, with Tortora and Caveny also scoring.

Liverpool, moving closer to clinching a post-season berth, turned back Auburn 13-8 last Monday night at LHS Stadium, building most of its margin by doubling up on the Maroons 8-4 in the first half.

Jen Kershner’s strong season continued as she picked up five goals and one assist. Julia Sardella had a three-goal hat trick, with Natalie Parkins and Taylor Fahey each scoring twice. Kasi Cabrey had the other goal and Rachel Kline contributed an assist. Maggie Ryan led Auburn with three goals.
