LETTER: Chili Cook-off Challenge a success for Laker Limo, Lakehouse Pub has an award winning chili

To the editor:

The organizing committee of Mike Downs, Adam Cottrill, Sean Mott and Dan Short deserve an “atta boy” for the outstanding effort that resulted in raising more than $2,100 in an afternoon of entertainment to benefit Laker Limo. Tumble Weed Jones Band donated their efforts and created an atmosphere of musical fun and generosity. On Sunday, Feb. 16 Cedar House/Hilltop was absolutely packed with bowlers from Dutch Hollow Golf Club, raffle ticket buyers, snowmobilers, music lovers and dancers and, of course, chili connoisseurs.

Twentyseven variations of chili entered the challenge in which the winners were determined by a tally of votes from tasting participants. The three divisions for the entries were best restaurant (12 entries), best home brew (15 entries), and best overall. Lakehouse Pub received the most votes for the restaurant division and best overall division. Lakehouse received trophies to display and the right to boast an award-winning chili. The home brew division award of a multi-functional Farberware Crockpot went to a husband and wife collaboration, Kevin and Angie Langford of Skaneateles. “Two Billy Chili” an expected favorite, concocted by Bill (Dozer) Greenfield and Bill Anseth, was determined to be an excellent paint remover.

Three major sponsors of the event donated funds directly to the mission of dependable and affordable transportation for seniors and disabled residents of Skaneateles provided by Laker Limo.

J.B. Installations, XTO Corporation and Chris (Ace) Collins all made very generous contributions to the events proceeds. Through out the afternoon donations from local merchants were raffled, of which the ticket donations were a large contribution to the proceeds. A 50/50 raffle that generated $600 was donated back to Laker Limo by the winner Dan Short, “way to go Shorty”.

Laker Limo volunteers would like to thank and give recognition to the local merchants that contributed to the success of this event. Thanks to Bluewater Grill, Cedar House/Hill Top, Downtown Deli/Grill Works, Doug’s Fish Fry, Garage Eatz, Gilda’s, Lakehouse Pub, Mandana Inn, Mark’s Pizza, Red Rooster Pub, Sherwood Inn and Valentine’s Deli, the restaurants that participated and donated raffled gift cards. Thanks to Gallery 54, Hairtique, Imagine, Infused, John Francis McCarthy, Mid-Lakes Navigation, Roland’s, Rhubarb and S.J. Moore Jewelers, all raffle prize donors.

Finally, the Laker Limo volunteers thank all of tasting participants and raffle ticket donors that came out to support our mission and we hope that you take pride in the fact that you are an important part of our success. The senior and disabled residents of our community deserve the independence they establish when using Laker Limo for their transportation needs. Thank you for your generosity!
