Fenner town board authorizes town office repairs

— The March 13 Fenner Town Board meeting was a relatively simple affair — as long as board members and visitors could traverse the snow-covered and wind-swept roads to get there.

One day after the March 9 blizzard during which the Cazenovia area received about one foot of snow, the roads in Fenner, especially Nelson Road where the town office is located, were covered with rutted, crusty snow and the wind blew momentary and isolated whiteouts in the morning.

The board convened at 12:30 p.m., minus Councilor William Wester, Town Clerk Joanne Buyea and Town Highway Superintendent Frank Hyatt.

The newest board member, Richard “R.E.” Sears, was present for his first meeting since being appointed last month. He was unanimously selected by the board Feb. 13 to fill the board seat vacated by David Jones, who was elected town supervisor last November.

Other than regular business, such as reviewing and approving town bills and reports, the main piece of business confronted by the board during its March 13 meeting was approving repair work to the town office. The harsh winter has caused cracks, leaks and water stains in the building ceiling in the reception area, main meeting room and judge’s room, Jones said.

Jones said he received an estimate from a Chittenango contractor to complete all the necessary repair work, as well as new paint jobs for the six doors to the building, for a total cost of $1,300. The board unanimously approved the repair work.

Finally, the board issued a reminder to all town residents that starting in April the monthly town board meeting time will change from its current 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meetings still will occur on the second Thursday of every month.
