LETTER: Relay for Life co-chairs thank community

To the editor and the F-M community:

As the co-chairs of this year’s F-M Community Relay for Life, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for so generously supporting us and the American Cancer Society in our first year of our Relay. We began this undertaking in October of 2013 when our students decided to bring Relay back to our community. With a small but dedicated group, we were able to plan a 12-hour walk, schedule a carnival, find bands to play, and, in total, see more than 1,000 people attend in one way or another to support raising funds for cancer research and prevention.

We would like to thank the community for showing us how wonderful they can be. We almost never heard the word “no” when asking for your support. May 31 was a spectacular day filled with celebration and courage interspersed with somber moments of commemoration, and was very well received by all who attended.

As a result of all of your support, in our first year of hosting the Relay for Life, the Fayetteville Manlius Community was able to raise more than $73,000 for the American Cancer Society. The event was such a success that we are already in the process of planning the 2015 Relay, and can say with certainty that we very much looking forward to working with the -FM community again to make next year’s relay an even bigger success.

Thank you to all of you who donated time, money and goods to our event. We are sincerely grateful to be a part of such a generous and supportive community.
