Seneca River Day a success despite cool temps and clouds

Event went smoothly, families had fun and the Rotary Club raised money for the community

The Rotary Club of Baldwinsville would like to thank the community, their sponsors and club members for another successful Seneca River Day, Saturday, June 14 at Mercer Park. The park was filled with vendor booths, there were activities and shows all day long and almost everything was free to enjoy. The weather was a little cool as the sun was hiding behind the clouds most of the day, but those that came dressed appropriately had plenty to enjoy when they got there. There were two contestants for the Anything That Floats contest that braved the cold river in their hand-crafted boats. The winning team was the Crazy Lions, but every participant received a prize for their efforts.

Thanks to excellent pre-sale efforts and all the people who bought tickets the day of the event, 2,500 plastic ducks went into the river for the big race. Here are the winners of this year’s prizes for The Great Seneca River Duck Pull:

First place: $1,000 cash sponsored by George Townsend of Honda City – Ariana Connors

Second place: $500 cash sponsored by Lindsy Luu of State Farm – Laura Livingston

Third place: $250 cash sponsored by Horan Financial Services – Debbie Daucher

Fourth place: Gift basket – Pat Booth

Sixth place: Gift basket – Judy Santimaw

Seventh place: Gift basket – Mary Coogan

Eighth place: Gift basket – Connie LaGarry

Ninth place: Gift basket – Robert Heater

In addition to giving out great prizes, the night ended with a spectacular fireworks display, sponsored again this year by Hudson & Mowins. With everyone watching from the shores of the Seneca River, they lit up the sky with beautiful colors and a fantastic finale. You can catch a video clip of the finale on the Baldwinsville Rotary Facebook page.

All proceeds raised at Seneca River Day are used to support the efforts of the Rotary Club throughout the year, including the scholarships they give out, the dictionaries distributed to all third graders in the Baldwinsville school district, the annual holiday luncheon for senior citizens and much more. The Seneca River Day committee and the entire Rotary Club of Baldwinsville appreciates everyone who supports their event and came out to buy duck tickets, ride ponies, eat hot dogs and see the sights this year. Mark your calendars to come again next year!
