Liverpool The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred during the evening hours of June 15 on Onondaga Lake Parkway in the Town of Salina.
At approximately 7 p.m. on June 15, several motorcycles were reportedly travelling southbound on Onondaga Lake Parkway at a high rate of speed. One of the bike operators, Kenneth J. Cullen, 26, of 108 Hale Ave in East Syracuse, began to lose control of his motorcycle on a curve near the railroad crossing, and his motorcycle travelled into the northbound lane of traffic striking a 2005 Saab SUV head-on. Both vehicles exploded into flames, and Cullen was killed instantly.
The operator of the SUV, Tabarrie Tillie, 35, of 145 Fernwood Ave in Syracuse, was helped out of his vehicle by another uninvolved motorist. Initial reports were that Cullen’s motorcycle had been clipped by another prior to the crash, however further investigation revealed that was not true.
A second motorcycle, operated by Mende Cukalevski, 20, of 101 Bayberry Circle in Liverpool, had been travelling near Cullin when the collision occurred. He was struck by debris from the impact and Cukalevski crashed his motorcycle in the roadway.
Cukalevski was transported to University Hospital with a foot injury and contusions. Tillie was transported by Rural Metro to University Hospital with neck and back pain.
At this time it does not appear that alcohol played a role in this crash. No tickets have been issued at this time. This case will continue to be investigated by members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
