B’ville Optimist Club thanks guidance counselors, Messenger

To the editor:

On behalf of the Baldwinsville Optimist Club, I express our appreciation to the Baker High School guidance counselors: Mr. Hollenbeck, Mrs. Pascale, Mrs. Dixon, Ms. Ambrose, Mrs. Foote and Mr. Mancini; and to Ms. Scott, editor of the Baldwinsville Messenger, for the cooperation with which you all gave me for the past two years as we honored 16 exemplary seniors for their academic excellence, extracurricular activities and their in-school and out-of-school community volunteerism.

The goal of this program is to highlight some of the exceptional students in our educational system that may not otherwise receive the recognition they are due. They are a representative sample of the many fine future citizens who are graduating from Baker High and high schools all over our area.

The counselors provided these students to our club. I wrote up a news article working with the students and their parents and submitted it to the Messenger. Ms. Scott printed the article in our local newspaper.

We hosted them and their parents at one of our dinner meetings, presented them to our members and presented them with a certificate and monetary gift. Our eight awardees this year were Rachel Browne, Steven Li, Tyler Weber, Katherine Grabowski, Michael Casey, Devin Murphy, Samantha Mandarino and Catherine Beamish.

I especially appreciate the Messenger highlighting them on the front page of the paper along with printing the full news article with their portrait in the paper.

The Optimist motto is: Friend of Youth. We appreciate all who help us to realize that goal.
