To the editor:
What happened to the gazebo? Will it be rebuilt? These are the questions the Spade and Trowel Garden Club received at our annual perennial sale recently. We answered that, because of major deterioration, the gazebo had to be replaced and this is planned to happen during 2014.
A wonderful group called the “Silver Hammers” volunteered to rebuild it, replicating the approximately 100-year original. Part of the garden club’s perennial sales over the last few years will be donated for this project. Members plant and care for the garden surrounding it each summer as part of our beautification efforts.
The Spade and Trowel Garden Club has been active in improvements to the Gazebo Park since 2005 in cooperation with the village government. We hope the gazebo will again be the lovely structure on the park between Academy and Seneca Streets for the next 100 years.
