To the editor and the Manlius community:
To all who danced in the Fourth of July Manlius parade flash mob dance, we say, thank you! You helped us share the amazing story of a local nonprofit, David’s Refuge. Our mission is to love and serve moms and dads who have children with special needs or those struggling with a life threatening disease. By joining in the dance you reminded these amazing parents that they are not alone, that what they do every day in caring for their child is the most important thing in the world, and that they are loved by God.
We started David’s Refuge in honor of our son, David who passed away five years ago after a 13-year battle with an untreatable disease. We now have the privilege of “paying it forward” to those still on the path of caregiving.
I also want to thank Tim Robinson who came up with the idea and followed it through to completion. He gathered a group of incredible volunteers, donated his time and resources, and created an event that joined our wonderful community together.
I hope you take a few minutes to check us out on the web and share our organization with parents you know who simply need some respite and time away: davidsrefuge.org.
