— LETTER: Thanks to Tassone for help in village initiatives

To the editor:

On behalf of the village of Liverpool and the village board of trustees, I would like to publicly thank our county legislator, Judy Tassone, for her assistance with two recent initiatives in the village of Liverpool.

Through her efforts, Judy was able to facilitate an intermunicipal agreement between the village of Liverpool and Onondaga County which will allow patrons of village commercial establishments to utilize the Griffin Field and Salt Museum parking lots during evening hours, which has previously been prohibited. Judy explained to the county executive's office and the county legislature that the planned development in the “Basin Block” area of the village is expected to draw an increasing number of visitors to the area, which will benefit both the county and the village. By utilizing existing municipal parking, a significant amount of “green” area will be preserved and the planning process enhanced relative to parking considerations. Onondaga County Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley and his staff have been very supportive in our efforts to work out this agreement, and we appreciate their efforts, as well.

The second successful initiative that Judy was able to deliver to the village was funding in the amount of $87,000 towards two village infrastructure projects scheduled to begin towards the end of this month. The two projects, one in the Balsam and Third Street neighborhood and the other in the Hiawatha Trail neighborhood, will address storm drain improvements, sanitary line improvement, village green restoration and tree plantings. Judy advised the village that a portion of these projects should qualify for funding through the County Clean Water Initiatives, and she was instrumental in guiding the village through the application process and presenting the projects to the Onondaga County Legislature for consideration. The funding was approved at the June 3 meeting of the legislature.

Again, thank you, Judy, for being a concerned and effective representative for your constituents in the village of Liverpool.

GARY WHITE

MAYOR

VILLAGE OF LIVERPOOL
