Fayetteville The village of Fayetteville is pleased to announce the 14th annual Fayetteville Jazz concert. This year the free concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 in Beard Park, Fayetteville. Bring the whole family, lawn chairs and outdoor blankets and listen to some great jazz.
The event features headlining vocalist Cookie Coogan, performing with Ronnie Leigh, the Salt City Jazz Collective, and special guest the Stan Colella All-Star Band. Uno Chicago Grill will be on hand to sell food – all proceeds benefit the Motto Sheet Music Collection at the Fayetteville Free Library.
About the Headliners:
Cookie Coogan is a jazz vocalist/pianist/composer based in Ithaca. Cookie is known for her swinging, soulful vocal work, creative improvisation, and excellent musicianship. She performs solo, leads her own bands, and frequently appears with many different bands throughout Central New York and the Southern Tier. She directed the Ithaca College Vocal Jazz Ensemble from 1998 to 2010. She also taught jazz singing at Cornell University and Syracuse University. She serves as a jazz education consultant, and currently teaches at Subcat Studios in Syracuse as well as her home studio in Ithaca.
Syracuse’s Salt City Jazz Collective is a 16-piece big band with solid traditional roots. The Jazz Collective has earned recognition by boldly delivering the historical compositions of its genre’s greatest icons. The Jazz Collective, along with its outstanding soloist,s deliver an exciting big band experience that is irresistible. The band has developed a large following among Syracuse area jazz fans and students of jazz.
For the past five decades, Ronnie Leigh has wowed audiences everywhere from Istanbul to Winnipeg and from Detroit to Philly to the Big Apple, in theaters, arenas, stadiums, gazebos, concert halls, nightclubs and dance halls. This singer, a six-time SAMMY (Syracuse Area Music Award) winner, has also been inducted into the SAMMY Hall of Fame and recorded with Cabo Frio on Zebra/MCA records; with Larry Arlotta on Spirit Jazz; Prime Time Funk on Eiffel records; live with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra; and his first solo CD “Ronnie Leigh Live at AppleJazz” on AppleJazz Records.
