Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary club’s annual Winterfest will occur this weekend, Jan. 24 through 26. The event includes numerous family-friendly events and supports local businesses as well as non-profit community groups.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, with the lighting of an ice chimney in Clift Park. All weekend visitors will be able to take an ice walk around the village to check out ice sculptures made by Stan Kolonko and his Auburn-based business The Ice Farm. Kolonko will also do live ice carving demonstrations in Clift Park, weather permitting.

On Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Taste of Skaneateles will feature more than 50 local restaurants and shops. Tickets are $30 per family, $25 per couple and $15 for individuals and are available for purchase the day of the event at the Sherwood Inn, Creekside Books and Coffee, in Clift Park and outside 46. E. Genesee St.

The Garage Eatz at 28 Jordan St. will be hosting "Cabin Fever Fest 2014" from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. In heated tents behind the restaurant they will be having beer tastings of brew from Magic Hat, Founders, Captain Lawrence, Saranac, Beak & Skiff and Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, which will be served from a wooden cask. Admittance to the event is $10.

The Polar Bear Plunge will start at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 To raise money for the Skaneateles Education Foundation, SAVES and the Skaneateles Fire Department, participants will jump into the freezing cold waters of Skaneateles Lake. Local emergency response personnel will be on hand to ensure the safety of all the jumpers.

Registration for the event is $50 per person and $40 per person if they are part of a team of three or more people. Plungers can also register the day of the event, for $60, starting at 10:30 a.m. in Clift Park.
