J-D boys hoops builds win streak

Red Rams roll past Riverside in Zebra Classic

In the aftermath of beating rival Christian Brothers Academy last Tuesday, the Jamesville-DeWitt played three more times in a four-day span, winning them all.

And it all culminated Sunday with J-D’s appearance in the Pathfinder Bank Zebra Classic at Onondaga Community College’s Allyn Hall, where the Red Rams controlled matters from start to finish in a 78-53 victory over Buffalo Riverside.

The game was over as soon as Dom DeRegis won the opening tip for the Red Rams. Jafar Kinsey promptly drove the ball and deposited it in the bucket, and J-D stumped the Frontiers from there.

Riverside simply couldn’t make any shots, nor could it effectively defend J-D’s talented offensive weapons. They scored nothing but layups, free throws and put-backs in the first quarter, amounting to a measly ten points and a 19-10 deficit entering the second period.

From there, J-D’s bench took over, scoring 18 of the team’s 23 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 42-23. At the half, all 14 Red Rams had seen action, and all but three of them were in the scoring column.

The second half was the same as the first. J-D came out strong in the third quarter on the back of Kinsey, who scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the frame. He went on a personal 10-4 run coming out of the break, slashing through the lane for five easy lay-ups.

Kinsey took a seat while J-D had a 26-point lead, and his teammates were outscored by only one point in his absence, cruising the rest of the way.

12 of J-D’s 14 players scored, led by Kinsey with 21 points. He was followed in double figures by DeRegis’ 13 points and Adrian Autry’s 10 points. Riverside’s Willie Smith, the only Frontier to hit a jumper all afternoon, poured in 20 points. Stefon Williams contributed 14 points, 11 of which came in the first half.
