CACDA and village of Cazenovia partner to secure grant

The Cazenovia Area Community Development Association (CACDA) has announced the recent funding of a $22,000 grant to the Village of Cazenovia from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. The grant funds will be used to create a vision and master plan for Lakeland Park and the historic Carpenter’s Barn.

The plan, which will be created with input from the community, will address opportunities for greater connectivity between the park and the barn and will include suggestions for rehabilitation to enhance public use of the barn, ways to improve pedestrian circulation and access to recreation areas. In addition, a tree planting plan will be developed.

Following the 2012 rehabilitation and stabilization of Carpenter’s Barn, the village engaged a committee of community members and village officials to begin to plan for a future use for the building. The committee identified a number of community needs and options for the building and determined that better connectivity to Lakeland Park would be beneficial. The committee also decided that a plan, developed by a professional, would help to determine what is feasible.

“We could not be more thrilled and grateful for the continued support of NYS Parks as we continue to rehabilitate and repurpose this local landmark,” said village Trustee Amy Mann. “It is our hope that the barn can add additional opportunities for public use and enjoyment of Lakeland Park. I look forward to continuing to work with the Carpenter's Barn Committee, an energetic and creative collaboration of many different stakeholders, as we execute this planning grant and zero in on a long term vision.”

CACDA enhances economic vitality and preserves the rural, historic character of the region through education, consensus-building and project implementation. For more information, call Lauren Lines, executive director, at 655-7651 or email lines@cacda.net.
