Riley Donovan beat Evan Salmonsen (Hannibal) 8-3 for third place at 99 pounds, with Tristan Duger fourth at 132 pounds. Nick Distefano was fifth at 126 pounds as Dan Tierney got to fifth at 152 with an 8-0 shutout over Port Byron’s Zack Kurtz. Dunn gained sixth place at 220.
Not far away from Oswego, West Genesee could not beat any of its seven opponents during the Dec. 27-28 Brett Dixon Memorial Duals at Central Square.
With a small lineup, the Wildcats were overwhelmed in defeats to Port Byron (64-12), New Hartford (59-12), Cazenovia (51-13), Penfield (70-3), Holland Patent (66-18), Central Square (54-25) and Cortland (75-12), though Liam Kotas snared Most Outstanding Wrestler honors for his side.
When the Wildcats competed a week later at the Fallen Heroes (formerly Richard New Memorial) Tournament at Canastota High School, it earned 40 points for 15th place in an 18-team field as Camden (241 points) and Fulton (195.5 points) earned the top two spots.
Dalton Elias, wrestling at 182 pounds, finished fourth, by far WG’s best effort, as he won three times in the consolation bracket before having to forfeit to Cato-Meridian’s Nick Sharp in the consolation bracket final.
