Cazenovia The Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education has announced that it will hold a public hearing this month to hear from district residents on the new voluntary state program allowing local veterans to sign up for real property tax exemptions. The hearing will occur at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, preceding the board’s regular monthly meeting.
The bill creating the veterans’ tax exemption program, titled “Provides authorization to grant certain exemptions from real property tax for school districts to certain veterans,” was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in December. The law allows the district to set an exemption rate under the allowed maximum.
The board was informed about the program by district administration during its Jan. 27 meeting and decided to hold off on any decisions about participation until its February meeting. The district will need to decide whether or not to participate in the program by the end of February.
