— In the first overtime, the Cougars peppered Harper and the Bees with shots and controlled the puck on offense. But B'ville held tough on defense, either rejecting or saving all of Syracuse’s shot attempts.

“We’ve played them three times this year, and they’ve out-shot us every time.” Lloyd said. “We probably wait for more high-quality scoring chances, so the shots aren’t going to be real indicative of the game.”

A second OT followed the first, and again neither side budged from 1-1. But early in the third extra period, the Cougars struck gold with the sneaky goal from Thompson.

Despite the loss, Lloyd said he was very proud of the way his team played.

“I thought they played a fantastic game,” he said. “(I) couldn't ask anything more out of them. It was just a great hockey game.”
