Manlius Manlius Police, working in conjunction with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s burglary unit, arrested two individuals linked to a group that has been responsible for a string of burglaries targeting homeowners in the town of Manlius and Onondaga County since early 2014.
Since January 2014, Manlius police officers have been investigating a ring of known burglars based out of Illinois that are affiliated with a well-known gypsy clan. Over the weekend, investigators were able to determine that the group was staying at a local hotel where they were eventually located and taken into custody.
The types of crime affiliated with this group have been daytime burglaries that involve two or more subjects that ring the homeowner’s doorbell and when it is answered use diversionary tactics to keep the homeowner busy while others slip into the residence and steal anything of value.
The following individuals were charged:
Valentin Lakatosz, 41, of Norridge, Illinois, was charged with two counts of second degree burglary, two counts of third degree grand larceny and two counts of third degree criminal mischief 3rd degree.
Chanel Lakatosz, 26, of Norridge, Illinois, was charged with two counts of second degree burglary, two counts of third degree grand larceny and two counts of third degree criminal mischief 3rd degree.
All parties were remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center on $500,000 cash and $750,000 bail bond. Both are due back in the town of Manlius court at 7 p.m. tonight.
