E-Race Cancer Half-Marathon set for Sept. 13

Registration is now open

A new race is in the works and set to be held in the town of Lysander.

“The E-Race Cancer Half Marathon and 5K started out as a desire to tie a running event into the Lysander Fall Festravaganza, set for the second Sunday in September,” said co-organizer Michelle Samoraj. “Saturday, the day prior to the Fall Festravaganza (which is being held Sept. 14), seemed like the perfect day to hold Baldwinsville’s only half marathon and 5K running event.”

Michelle and Michael Samoraj, organizers of the Festravaganza events and owners of Willow Health and Wellness Center in Baldwinsville, wanted to return a favor and assist their good friend Dr. Kaushal Nanavati with his fundraising efforts for the new integrative medicine unit at the newly opened Upstate Cancer Center in downtown Syracuse. Dr. Nanavati has been very helpful in the development of the Willow Health and Wellness Center since the concept of “Willow” grew into a business in the fall of 2013.

The half marathon and 5K running event will start and finish at the Lysander Town Office Building, 8220 Loop Road, on Saturday, Sept. 13. The half marathon will begin at 8:30 a.m. and costs $35 (if pre-registered prior to Sept. 1.) The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Cost for the 5k is $25 (if pre-registered prior to Sept 1). The first 1,000 registrants are guaranteed a high-quality long sleeve performance running shirt.

The Mascot Run will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by the Kids Fun Run. Both of these are free to enter. The Mascot Run is sure to be a crowd pleaser as various mascots from local schools, sports teams as well as other organizations and businesses will compete in the first ever run of its kind in Central New York. The Kids Fun Run will be roughly one mile in distance and will be for children 12 years old and younger. At the conclusion of the Kids Fun Run, runners and their friends and family can enjoy live music and a chicken BBQ ($5).

The net proceeds from the E-Race Cancer event will go to the Integrative Medicine Department of the newly-built Upstate Cancer Center as well as other cancer-related entities focused on a similar mission to erase cancer from our lives.
