To the editor:
I drive up and down East Lake Road quite frequently and last week was horrified upon seeing the ruthless clear cutting of dozens of mature trees along the winery frontage. This is in addition to all the clear cutting done further north by Stanley Road last summer. I was told that area was cleared to allow better sight distance and to let more sunlight hit the road surface. I'm not sure either was necessary and that once beautiful stretch of road now looks like a war zone. This type of thoughtless devastation diminishes the aesthetic charm we so badly need to promote tourism in the region. There has to be a better way.
