Police chief proud of ‘Cops on Top’ fundraiser success

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to express just how proud I am of my officers and the community in which we serve. The recent fundraiser for “Cops on Top” at Dunkin Donuts was a heartwarming success for not only Special Olympics but for the community as well, a community that the police department is a part of. That is the attitude that all of the Cazenovia police officers take whether they live in the Cazenovia area or not, that this is their community too.

I watched the positive interaction with the officers, the store employees and the patrons that were at the store that morning whether they donated or not. It was fun and positive and a reflection of what makes Cazenovia great, people coming together to help and serve.

We all know the saying about cops and donuts, and I have heard all the jokes over my career, but that is part of what made this event fun. The officers cannot wait until next year. They are already planning for the event and hope to raise even more money.

So, at the risk of repeating myself, please let me say that as a chief of police and as a person who lives in this community, I was very proud.

CHIEF MICHAEL A. HAYES

CAZENOVIA POLICE DEPARTMENT
