Thanks to community from Cazenovia Counterpoint committee

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

The Cazenovia Counterpoint committee and the board of the Society for New Music wish to thank all those who participated in the 2014 festival, once again a true team effort. The festival showcased and celebrated the cultural future in the historic village by presenting new works by regional creative artists, and by mentoring and giving performance opportunities to young artists. We are especially grateful to our partners: St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Cazenovia Artisans, Common Ground, Cazenovia Chamber of Commerce, Cazenovia Jewelry, Isabella, Cazenovia Public Library, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, the Catherine Cummings Theater (Caz College), and Flowers by Foxgloves.

The budding composers participating in the Young Composers Corner came from Baldwinsville, Fayetteville, and Jamesville. Gifted Rising Stars composers and performers came from across the heart of NYS, from Cortland to New Hartford (Marcellus, Cortland, Syracuse, Cazenovia, Sherrill-Vernon-Verona, New Hartford, Pompey, Baldwinsville, Jamesville and Fayetteville).

A total of 112 artists, writers, performers & composers participated, from Skaneateles to the Adirondacks, including several from Cazenovia. The varied events drew enthusiastic audiences, and several were standing-room-only.

We would also like to thank Melinda Johnson & the Syracuse Post-Standard for superb interviews and coverage, as well as the Cazenovia Republican, Eagle newspapers, WRVO, WCNY, CNY Latino, Downtown Writers Center, CNYARTS calendar, Caz Chamber of Commerce, NewMusicWorld, Chamber Music America & several other regional newspapers for their help in publicizing these events.

Thanks also to the 33 advertisers who helped underwrite the festival, and to the very generous patrons. We are also grateful to Victoria King, Sar Strong, Caz Public Library, the Guitar Center, Heather Buchman & Hamilton College, Colleen Prossner & Caz College, Paul Grillo, Byrne Dairy, Darlene Vinyard and David Harper for their creative expertise, loan of equipment and technical assistance. Special thanks to Open Hand Theater for joining forces to march with the Society for New Music in the July 4thparade.
