Empire Brewing Company to make official New York State Fair beer

"State Fair Showstopper Ale" to premiere at state fair on Aug. 21

The Great New York State Fair will launch its own fair-branded line of New York-brewed craft beer, known as “State Fair Showstopper Ale,” in time for the fair's kickoff on Aug. 21 — and the ale will be made in part from New York hops and barley products and brewed by Empire Brewing Company of Syracuse.

“The Great New York State Fair deserves a great beverage to represent it, and this craft beer is a perfect fit,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “A beer bearing the name of one of the most exciting agricultural events in the nation will help promote the fair beyond the borders of this state, and gives people yet another reason to visit the annual celebration. I congratulate the team behind Showstopper and wish them continued success.”

Showstopper Ale will be on tap at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, which runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 1. Visitors of legal drinking age can enjoy it at the new Taste NY Wine, Beer and Spirits Bar at the Colonnade and widely throughout the fairgrounds. The introduction of the new brew complements the first time that New York wines will also be served at the Colonnade in many years, and also the first time that New York craft beers and spirits will ever be served in that area of the fair.

“We are delighted and thrilled to produce the inaugural New York State Fair Beer,” said

David Katleski, president of Empire Brewing Company and president of the New York State Brewers Association. “Empire's NYS Fair Showstopper Ale was created based on our award-winning and best-selling Skinny Atlas Light Ale recipe. This New York state hybrid utilizes local ingredients like pure Skaneateles Lake water, malted barley and hops and our proprietary yeast to produce a light and refreshing Kolsh-style ale. It truly is a Showstopper.”
