Knowing that its Tuesday-night showdown with unbeaten Liverpool loomed, the CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt boys swim team did not want to stumble at the last hurdle before facing the Warriors. To that end, CBA/J-D put a lot of effort into Friday night’s meet against Frontier League powerhouse Watertown, and with Josh Lacey and Corey Knapp leading the way, the Red Rams defeated the Cyclones 101-77. Lacey began his effort in the 200-yard freestyle, tearing to first place in one minute, 51.65 seconds, a quick time as Dan McGann (2:03.55) finished second. Then, in the 500 freestyle, Lacey zoomed past the five-minute mark and won in 4:57.77 as Jack Toole (5:35.28) earned the second spot. Meanwhile, Knapp won his sprint duel with Watertown’s Brad McKinney, 22.88 seconds to 23.58, in the 50 freestyle before going to the 100 freestyle and winning there, too, in 50.77 seconds, with Ben Katsarsky second in 54.42 seconds. Kevin Potocki, in 55.85 seconds, held off Casey Sawyer (57.03 seconds) in their 100 butterfly duel, right after Alex Dieroff earned 229.35 points on the diving board to beat Matt Wanamaker (203.85 points) in yet another 1-2 CBA/J-D effort. Though Potocki finished second (2:08.57) to Watertown’s Mike Netto (2:02.35) in the 200 individual medley, he would pair with Knapp, Lacey and Sawyer in the 200 freestyle relay as CBA/J-D won that event in 1:32.51. Watertown won the other two relays as Netto also took the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.25. Fayetteville-Manlius took on Cicero-North Syracuse that same night at the Cazenovia College pool and lost a 94-84 decision to the Northstars. Chris Rettinger prevailed in the 50 freestyle in 23.76 seconds and also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.71. He also teamed with Ben Stroh, Dan Dettor and Trevor Mihalia to help the Hornets claim the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.39. Individually, Stroh gained first place in the 500 freestyle in 6:22.27, with Dettor needing 1:11.41 to prevail in the 100 backstroke. Matt Beach, with 240.4 points, prevailed in the diving competition.
