Mimi Kennedy will be performing at the Everson on Oct. 3. Kennedy has been acting since the 1960s and has appeared in several movie and TV shows, including “Dharma and Greg,” “Erin Brockovich” and, most recently, “Midnight in Paris.”
continued “I’ve chosen three of her speeches that I think show the progress of her thought and her influence on my life,” she said. “I didn’t know her as a young woman, but I do present myself as a young woman and show how I am completely the opposite of Matilda in most cases and in need of her instruction.”
Kennedy’s performance at the Everson Museum is the kickoff event to Syracuse University’s Imagining America national conference, which runs Oct. 4 through 6. General tickets are $20 and VIP tickets, which give the holder access to a reception after the performance complete with wine and food from The Mission restaurant, are $75. All proceeds go to the Gage Foundation, which will enable it to continue its Girl Ambassador program, which is starting its second year this October.
“We still have a problem in this country where people are trying to make other people second class citizens,” said Kennedy. “And Matilda would still be working against that too. I hope the play is an open-ended performance in which people can go and look at Matilda and all the facets she presents; intellectually and as an activist, and that they can find inspiration for whatever they want to work on.”

Girl Ambassador program
The Gage Foundation was able to start its Girl Ambassador program last fall after receiving a grant to participate in “Girl Ambassadors for Human Rights,” a one-year project which brought together girls from Central New York with girls from a museum in Chile and a museum in Sri Lanka. The museums received this grant from the Museums Connect Program, which was made possible by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau for Educational and Cultural Affairs.
