Recycling comes to Austin Park
To the editor:
On behalf of the Davey’s Forest project I would like to thank Terri Roney and the town board for approving our request to place a recycling container at the entrance to Austin Park. I am pleased to report that the container is in place and people have already started to use it. We welcome all recyclable materials. Any funds from returnable “nickel back” bottles and cans will go to the Davey’s Forest project.
The Davey’s Forest project is an environmental conservation initiative aimed at raising funds to purchase a piece of land in the town of Skaneateles. This land would then be preserved as a forever wild area that would be protected from any future development. Residents can learn more by visiting us on Facebook or at our website daveysforest.weebly.com. The project is in memory of lifelong resident Davey Oram who passed away two years ago from cancer. We will be having a fishing derby on Sept. 28, and we welcome anyone to join us.
I am pleased that our town board has recognized the benefits of recycling. There is a global peace initiative involved in our use of resources, and the responsible use, conservation, and preservation of our environment. I thank you all for your support of this project.
