Let us hear from the candidates

To the editor:

I have noticed that signs are being placed in resident’s yards for the town board election on Nov. 5, 2013. I believe these signs are great to identify the candidates for each of the three positions. The Skaneateles Party, endorsed by the Skaneateles Democratic committee, has as its candidates Mary Sennett for town supervisor and Claire Robinson Howard and Connie Brace for town board. The Republican committee has Jim Greenfield for town supervisor and Steve McGlynn and Rick Keyes for town board.

However, my vote will not be determined by signs. And, although I am a registered Republican, my vote will not be based on the political affiliation of a candidate. It will not matter whether the candidate is a Democrat, Republican or Independent.

Instead, I want to hear the candidate’s own voice, words, thoughts and opinions with respect to matters that are important to our community. I want to hear from them as to their goals, objectives and actions items. I want to know how they will fulfill their responsibilities which include fiscal management, effective public communication and preserving the character, scenic views and environment of our community and lake.

My vote will be based on what I hear from the candidates that convinces me to put my faith and trust in them to fight for the best interests of the residents of this community. My vote will be based on candidates who possess the passion and skills to provide effective leadership and good government.

This is an important election and I strongly encourage all voters to get involved and be ready to personally ask questions of the candidates on important matters and issues and to listen to their responses as they make themselves available in upcoming community forums and debates.

Jim Moore
