Thank you for making race weekend a success

To the editor:

SkanRaces thanks the entire Skaneateles community in supporting of our ninth year of exceptional racing over the Skaneateles Labor Day race weekend. Phenomenal sponsors and over 300 volunteers enabled over 1,000 athletes ages 5 to 78 to compete in swimming, bicycling and running in six different races over two days. Their activity raised funds continuing support of programs encouraging active lifestyles for people of all ages and abilities. Direct beneficiaries include: numerous school and community teams, the Skaneateles Fire Department, free swim lessons at the Skaneateles and Auburn YMCAs for any 7-year-old, SAVES, MAVES and many others over the next year.

We offer a very special “thank you” to motorists and residents for their patience and alternative travel arrangements permitting safe race courses for cyclists and runners. We appreciate the consideration of all, especially anyone delayed by waiting for the safe passage of racers. Skaneateles village police and Onondaga County sheriffs ensured safety for everyone. Our Baltimore Woods green team and Skaneateles DPW kept us clean and recycling.

We are most appreciative of our generous sponsors who help us promote wellness in our community: Victory Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, Welch Allyn, Dunk and Bright, Sherwood Inn, RealtyUSA.com, Mid-Lakes Navigation, B and C Storage, Johnny Angel’s Heavenly Burgers, Wegmans, Hammer Nutrition, Byrne Dairy, Skaneateles Bakery and Café, Familycare Medical Group, Skaneateles YMCA, Creekside Books and Coffee, Finger Lakes Paddle Board, Mirbeau Inn and Spa, Certified Public Accountants: Kane, Bowles, and Moore, P.C., V.I.P. Structures, Syracuse Bicycle, Skaneateles UPS Store, Valentine’s Delicatessen, Lanacane, Westside Podiatry Centers, Burdick Driver’s Village, Marietta Corp. and Smiles of Skaneateles. Please patronize them in recognition of their extraordinary support.

Thank you to all the racers, spectators, sponsors, and volunteers who created another fun fitness activity. We are grateful to the town and village of Skaneateles governments and especially our partner, the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, in helping plan and conduct another successful, community Labor Day celebration. We hope you enjoyed the SkanRaces Labor Day fireworks at the Skaneateles volunteer firemen’s field days. Race results are available at skanraces.com.
