continued Gwinner proved his offense was capable of the big plays, throwing a laser pass to Hassan Rainey for a 54-yard TD. But a failed two-point conversion and onside kick paved the way for yet another Wittig rushing touchdown as he ran the bootleg again on the right side, stopped at around the three-yard line and dove into the end zone to extend F-M's lead to 42-14.
“Look what he does,” Rhodes said of Wittig. “He’s a heck of a player, a better person and a great leader for this team.”
The Hornets recovered its own kickoff, and Wittig tosses his fifth and final TD pass to Krizman again to increase the lead to 49-14. Patriots tailback Alex Velez made it a little interesting with a 50-yard scoring run, but Walker-Jones would tack on his third touchdown with two minutes left.
F-M returns home on Thursday to face West Genesee in a highly-anticipated early-season showdown.
Led by Syracuse University-bound senior tailback Naesean Howard, who had three touchdowns (one of them a kick return), the Wildcats beat Auburn 28-13 in its season opener. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sports and kick off at 7 p.m.
