continued 4) “What are the plans for the former Mobil Gas Station on the corner of Erie Blvd and Thompson Road because it is such an eyesore?” Although this is inside the city boundaries, I want to work with city government to find a plan to beautify this corner.
5) “What are you going to do about growing small business in our town?” When talking to property owners and business owners, it appears that DeWitt has many restrictions when building and/or expanding their property. I am small business-friendly and feel small businesses help to attract people to our town. In addition, small business helps increase our tax base and create more tax revenue for our schools, which is the number one reason why people move to our town.
6) “What about the possible plans of Onondaga County selling OCCRA operations to a private company?” I will join our supervisor in the fight against this. This is a huge issue because if the private company gets control of our trash system, this may be very harmful to the air we breathe. The reason it may be more harmful is because trash from other counties could be allowed to be shipped near our town. This will lead to more trash burning and more harmful emissions into the air. This can’t happen and I will fight with the supervisor to make sure our county doesn’t give up control of our trash system that is presently in place. Our current system has a treaty that minimizes the amount of garbage that can be transported to the incinerator to be burned. If the county gets out of the garbage business, then this treaty no longer exists thus lifting the garbage restriction.
7) “What is the status of East Syracuse Fire Department becoming a fire district?” This issue affects other parts of DeWitt and Jamesville as well as East Syracuse. If East Syracuse becomes a fire district, then the East Syracuse Fire Department becomes its own taxing authority. They elect their own board of officers and create their own tax rate to charge all of the property owners of DeWitt, not just East Syracuse. This issue is new and I need to listen at an upcoming meeting to hear the pros and cons before determining whether I am for or against. You can count on me fighting for what is best for all.
