Cazenovia CSD Athletic Department thanks Cazenovia College

To the editor:

On behalf of the students, coaches and administration at Cazenovia Central Schools, we would like to express our appreciation to the staff within the Cazenovia College Athletics Department and the Office of the President, Dr. Mark Tierno. Specifically, we would like to say thank you to the college for allowing our high school sports programs to use Cazenovia College’s Christakos Field at various times during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. Members of our boys and girls soccer teams, field hockey teams, baseball and softball teams and boys and girls lacrosse teams all benefited during their respective seasons with well-timed opportunities to use the multi-use turf sports field at Cazenovia College for several games and practices.

With a full understanding that we were not going to impose on the practice and game plans for Cazenovia College’s NCAA Division III teams, or the intramural programming at the college, the athletic administration was more than accommodating to our needs during the late fall and early spring seasons when their field was open. Often, a last-minute request was accepted by the staff at the college, and our teams benefited tremendously. Whether we experienced a late-fall deluge as remnants of a hurricane moved up the coast, or we experienced an early spring snowstorm, the college helped our Laker teams find practice time and an appropriate game field. Without this new community asset, Christakos Field, Cazenovia school teams would have been forced inside to the gymnasiums, forced to cancel games or rent field space in neighboring communities such as Chittenango, F-M or Morrisville. Due to the cooperation we received from the college, our school saved significant money out of the budget and cut travel time for our student-athletes on many occasions.

For several years, Cazenovia CSD has enjoyed working together with the college trying to help each other’s programs be successful. We hope to continue this neighborly tradition and wish the Wildcats good luck this academic year! We thank our good friends at Cazenovia College for helping the greater community of Cazenovia move in a positive direction.
