— The Global Community 5k is taking place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 27 at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. Because the idea behind the race is to celebrate the diversity of the Syracuse community and the pride within the cultures that make up that community, participants are encouraged to dress in a wardrobe which represents their nationality or culture. Whether it be wearing your country’s national colors or wearing a cape made from a flag, all kinds of expression will be embraced.

“One of the really important ideas behind the race is the idea of the global community,” Tangoren explained. “There are people suffering here in our own city and people suffering around the world. I know that I personally can’t stop the war in Syria and I can’t help people over there alone, but it’s about what we’re capable of if we all take part in something together.”

To register for the Global Community 5k, visit globalcommunity5k.org. The cost is $25 online or $35 on race day. For more information about the event, visit the website or facebook.com/globalcommunity5k.
