Meanwhile, WG’s boys soccer team, who entered the week with a 5-5-2 mark, had to go face state-ranked Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday night, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Northstars.
Though Tim Fletcher made 14 saves and mostly kept C-NS off the board in the first half, he could not prevent the Northstars from getting away thanks to a trio of second-half goals.
Liam McDonnell, Pete Girardi, Lucas Roberts and Justin Perkins each had one goal, and none of WG’s six shots got past C-NS goalie Morgan Miller.
Back home on Thursday night, the Wildcats would defeat Central Square 3-1, inching in front during the first half and doubling that margin in the latter stages despite a goal from the Red Hawks’ Jon Cimilucca.
Paul Masello, Michael Apenteng and Jake Fox each took turns notching goals for WG, with Austin Graham and Luis Delasota picking up assists. Central Square goalie Zach Reed made 11 saves to keep the game close for a while.
But the Wildcats took a 2-0 loss to defending Class B champion Westhill on Saturday night, both goals coming in the first half as Fletcher, in defeat, had 11 saves. Matt Torak and Mike Parasczak scored for the 13-1 Warriors.
To complete its regular season, WG’s boys would host Henninger Wednesday night, one day after the girls Wildcats paid a visit to Baldwinsville before it awaits its Section III Class AA playoff fate.
