We will not be duped anymore by Owera

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Listen to the music of the falling rain...

...and booming bass,

...and banging drums,

...and a wedding emcee calling the shots,

...and drunk people screaming.

Yeah, they call it a vineyard. The state gave them $1 million for this "vineyard" and then blessed our town by exempting them for $1.1 million from their tax valuation. Total tax bill for this banquet hall: $1,074 per year. Yes, that is it. A $1,000 tax bill for a commercial banquet hall with edible landscaping — landscaping that rarely turns into wine.

We will not be duped anymore. This town board and planning board were swindled and the neighbors are paying dearly.

As neighbors of a state-subsidized banquet hall, we are disgusted with the way that this has been allowed to happen. We were promised a quaint agribusiness that seemed interested in making wine and being good citizens in the community. What we received is a far cry from what was promised or approved.
