Dedication to dock day

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

On Saturday, Sept. 28, 40 adults and students gathered at the shores of our beautiful lake and worked together to take out the Skaneateles Chamber Foundation’s Community Docks.

Many thanks to the following volunteers who donated their time, sore muscles, and hard work to remove the docks from the lake: Dale Abrams, Eric Amberge, Dan Bangs, Steve Bryant, Tory and Trevor Blum, Bill Burdick Frank Catanzarita, Steve Clymer, Bob Cox, John Devins, Bob Dewitt, Jed and Sue Dove, Jeff Dove, Jeff and Elaine Dubois, Tom Grant, Rich Herlihy, Rick Keyes, Chris Legg, Dr. John Maurillo, Brad McLennan, Jim O’Connell, Cathy O’Toole, John Paddock, Craig Phinney, Will Pratt, Lester Purdy, Paul Rodgers, Bob & Matthew Sheppard, Dave Sheppard, Mike Tutor, Ron Walsh, Sons of the American Legion, Randy Stockweather, Jason Slottje, Duane, Adam, Denise and Alyssa Wiedor and Robert Young. My apologies if I have missed anyone.

The dock process is significantly easier through the use of machinery, such as forklifts, compressors, and flat bed trucks. The following companies donated the use of their machinery and/or manpower in getting the job done: Erie Materials, John Mordaunt Construction, Tory’s 4 Season, and Wirth’s Automotive. The village of Skaneateles allows us to store the docks at their location on Fennell Street and the Skaneateles police help with bagging meters. Many thanks to all.

The local restaurants are an important part of dock day by donating all the food and beverage to keep the volunteers well fed. Many thanks to: Bluewater Grill, Doug’s Fish Fry, Johnny Angel’s, Lake House Pub, Valentine’s Pizza and Deli, Skaneateles Bakery, Creekside Café and Sherwood Inn. It is all greatly appreciated.

Finally, thanks to all those who used and supported the docks this summer with your donations. The Skaneateles Chamber Foundation continues to work on a plan for improved docks that can stay in the water all year long, look more aesthetically pleasing, and has a wider, sturdier walkway. Later this fall the second round of plans will be introduced for public comment.

The Skaneateles Chamber Foundation looks forward to providing the docks, again next summer, for your enjoyment.

Susan Dove

Skaneateles Chamber and Foundation Executive Director
