To the editor:
I saw the Republican ad and was surprised to see that they’re taking credit for the ban on hydrofracking. Mary Menapace, who chaired the committee, could take credit. The people who served on the committee – which includes Claire Howard – they could take credit. The committee members are the people who researched the laws, held fundraisers and forums, wrote numerous letters and attended many meetings. Never once did any of the incumbent candidates bother to show up at any of the meetings. It took the committee two years to convince the board to enact the ban. The candidates should talk about their ideas and initiatives. Dragging out the decision and then voting for the ban when there was overwhelming support from the community isn’t a big accomplishment.
