Former Sweet Endings customers will notice some similarities between the former store and the new one, including the option of ordering custom wedding cakes and other desserts. Titus said the world of wedding cakes was not something she was familiar with, or even planned to do before opening up in Sweet Endings’ old location.
“When we opened up, it was right in the middle of wedding season – never did I think I was going to get involved in the bridal business, but [Sweet Endings] had done a lot with custom cakes, so I decided to go for it. The decorator from Sweet Endings stayed on to help me and she still decorates the cakes.”
The biggest new addition to the shop is the bistro option. Titus said she knew from the beginning that she wanted to offer a different soup, quiche and sandwich every day. And she’s trying to incorporate as many local ingredients as possible – something she feels strongly about since meeting and working with local vendors at the Cazenovia Farmers’ Market.
“I started hearing more about organic vegetables and different growing styles, and I started incorporating that into my cooking” she said. “I’ve used tomatoes, spinach and potatoes from local farmers, and my coffee beans are roasted locally in Camillus. To me, being able to help other local vendors in important. If I can get my ingredients fresh, it’s so worth it. I feel more comfortable because they haven’t been traveling across the country, and I know where they’re coming from.”
The concept of fresh goods transcends over to the baking side of business as well. Titus makes everything in-store – nothing is shipped frozen. And almost all of her baked goods are made fresh the morning they’re placed on the counter to be sold.
