Lysander budget sees tax hike

Town residents express concern

Greg Maxwell, the comptroller for Van Buren and Salina and also a resident, echoed these concerns, calling this year’s budget issues “short-sighted.” In addition to questioning the fact that town residents pay nothing towards their health insurance and asking why the town wasn’t considering bonding for the road repairs, he also said, “You guys really need to — I hate to say it — put your big boy pants on, roll up your sleeves and get the taxes down for these people.”

Salisbury later pointed out that Lysander has historically lagged behind other area municipalities in highway expenditures, and, even with this tax increase, the town has the fifth lowest tax rate in the county.

The town board postponed the vote on the budget until the next regular meeting on Nov. 18.
