LETTER: Public input needed on senior housing proposal

To the editor:

I am writing to shed some light on the possibility of a potential senior housing development on the east side of town. As a village trustee I can tell you that I have not been presented with any plans or official requests. Some people have asked me about the status of this project. I would like to ask that the community stay informed and ahead of curve on this initiative. I encourage residents to go to planning and zoning board meetings of both the town and the village as this develops. Check the agendas frequently and stay informed.

I have not established an opinion for or against this proposal. My opinion will be based on the feedback and input that I receive from you. I believe that I was elected to decide with you and not for you. I would like to see some improvements to this area of our community, but I have concerns about annexation into the village and the impact on our infrastructure. Will this be affordable housing for seniors or will it be geared towards wealthy individuals only? Our low-cost hydroelectric power is a limited capacity item. I would not want to see modest, hard working residents pay more for their electric to subsidize this proposal.

It is no secret that my desire for public input, public hearings and public opinion has left me a bit isolated on the village board. I will not be intimidated or denied. I look forward to an open and transparent discussion as this proposal moves forward. Please bring me your thoughts, questions, opinions, and comments.
