LETTER: Our future requires continued community involvement

To the editor:

I write this letter on the morning of Election Day to thank each of the candidates running for office with the Skaneateles town board. I respect their ambition and commitment required to serve our community.

The campaign this fall has created spirited dialogue, thoughts and opinions. It has resulted in many voters getting involved and engaged to discuss matters important to the future of our community. However, let’s not see this community involvement end with election results. Our future should not be left to only five elected individuals. Instead, our town board should work together with the interests and opinions expressed by members of the community.

There are many important issues currently in front of our community including, but not limited to, the following:

• Significant revisions to the comprehensive plan

• Changes to our zoning laws

• Retention of a new town board attorney

• The pending application by Victory Sports Medicine.

• The proposed Loveless Farms subdivision.

• The proposed senior living facility

Each of these matters could have a significant impact on the future of our town and village.

So, after Election Day, I encourage everyone to stay involved, go to board meetings and consider becoming active with civic organizations like the Citizens to Preserve the Character of Skaneateles, the Skaneateles Lake Association and the Finger Lakes Land Trust.

In 50 years we will be gone. Question: will we have left Skaneateles a better place?
