LETTER: Keyes congratulates Brace, Robinson Howard, Sennett

To the editor:

I would like to congratulate Connie Brace and Claire Robinson Howard for their hard-fought victory for Skaneateles town board. I would also like to congratulate village trustee Mary Sennett as well for her well-managed campaign for town supervisor. All three now have the opportunity to help move Skaneateles forward, and I wish them great success as they address and manage the problems facing our town and its government.

This campaign was hard-fought, and has also been a humbling experience. Humbling, not because of their win, but because it has afforded me the opportunity to hear from hundreds of Skaneateles voters. In just a few short months I have been able to learn more about what Skaneateles residents and my neighbors feel is important to them, than I would have heard in a lifetime’s worth of normal interactions. This has provided valuable insights into the lives of our residents, the problems we face, and the strength of character in our citizens that will help Skaneateles move forward to a brighter, stronger future with any administration.

My four years in office were very rewarding, and the outgoing members of this current board all deserve to be proud of the numerous accomplishments that have been made. Throughout the campaign, in addition to the topics that were in focus, I was also reminded by many how much this board has accomplished. Our town is in a solid position financially with proper cash reserves in place to address future capital expenditures, tax rates are historically low, our cost of town government and operations is down to an efficient and manageable level, we are environmentally protected to the point allowed by law and a solid foundation is in place that will assist future administrations to continue on successfully.

Thank you for all your support and trust in me serving the town for the last four years, and I have pledged to do what I can to assist this new administration with the transition. This is a great community, there is a tremendous amount of talent, dedication and commitment from both the outgoing and incoming administrations, and although there are winners and losers in a campaign, we all win as residents.
