continued Despite the Plainsmen converting on four of its eight shots on goal in the first, Vulcano said she reminded her team how Holland Patent erased a 3-0 halftime deficit and came back to almost beat Cazenovia on Oct. 30 in the Section III Class C final.
The one silver lining of the night for F-M came with 16:36 left in the game. Right after the Plainsmen had scored off a penalty stroke to make it 5-0, Gabriela Gorgoni got an unassisted goal to ruin Shen’s shutout and put the Hornets on the board.
“((We) just didn’t want them to beat us 5-0,” Vulcano said.
Vulcano held back tears when she spoke of how her team played and the seniors that had played their last game. This group, she said, worked hard and played with class, and she hopes the underclassmen learn from the seniors.
“This group of seniors, they’re a special group,” she said. “It’s unfortunate that tonight has to be the last night, but we still brought home a (sectional) title."
