LETTER: A letter to fellow Lysander taxpayers

At this point, I am not fully supportive of raising taxes so high because I am not completely convinced that we have a clear, multi-year strategy in place to address our road problems over the long-term. If the town board truly needs to increase your taxes by 37.8 percent next year, knowing that it will likely never be restored to the 2013 level, I believe the board owes it to the taxpayer to lay out a long-term, comprehensive plan in advance of any property tax increase, so you will know precisely what the problems are, how they are going to be fixed over the next several years, and how much it will truly cost us.

To that end, I would very much like to hear from you and urge you to attend the public hearing to give your input on the proposed 2014 budget on Nov. 7. For those who cannot attend, please email me your input at restorepride4lysander@gmail.com. I really want to hear your thoughts. Please provide your name and address as well.

Lysander Town Councilor
